Galician Youth Symphony Orchestra

In the ten year or so that have passed since its foundation, the Galician Youth Symphony Orchestra has enabled hundreds of young musicians to complete their musical training by taking part in concerts and opera performances under the baton of renowned conductors such as Alberto Zedda, Víctor Pablo Pérez, James Judd, Pietro Rizzo, Michael Gilbert, James Ross or Joan Company, amongst others.

The GYSO has played as the pit orchestra in the A Coruña Mozart Festival, where, conducted by Alberto Zedda, it performed the musical accompaniment for the Baroque opera Gli Amore d’Apollo e di Dafne (The Loves of Apollo and Daphne), a performance which was recorded and has just been released on the Naxos label; has shared the stage with the Galician Symphony Orchestra for performances of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony; and has given concerts in Madrid, San Sebastian, Murcia, Valencia, Leon, Segovia, Jerez, Xavea and Concentaina.

Already one of the most original educational projects in the Spanish musical world, the GYSO provides aspiring professional musicians with one of the few real opportunities to play as a member of a symphony orchestra. These young performers receive a thoroughgoing musical education by working alongside the musicians of the GSO, attending numerous master classes given by leading musicians and performers such as Wolfgang Klos, Anne Gastinel, Geneviéve Laurenceau or Mario Brunello, to name but a few, and their daily practice in the four residential courses held each year, in which they come into contact with a wide repertoire of music ranging from Baroque to contemporary.
